Murder Mystery, and what we still have to check.

Someone in the room is the murderer. Survive as an innocent, hunt the killer as sheriff, or blend in and don't get caught.

We have not played this mode. The description above is the developer's; every heading below is what we still have to go and check.

What the mode is

A round of hidden roles. Nobody is told who the murderer is, so the first thirty seconds are people checking who follows whom. Innocents have to survive, the sheriff has to shoot the right person, and the murderer has to pick people off without being identified.

What a first round feels like

Role games live or die on the first round, because a new player spends it not knowing what they are looking at. Expect the chat to carry most of the accusation, and expect one mistaken sheriff shot to end a round for everyone.

What we will measure when we play it

How many players a round seats, whether roles are announced at the start, what the sheriff's weapon is and whether a wrong shot is punished, and how long a round runs.

How busy it is

Murder Mystery is one of the ten modes the lobby does not print a player count for — only eight of the eighteen do. The closest thing to demand data we have for it is its position in the mode grid and the 88 custom rooms listed beside it, neither of which is a number worth printing.

Where to read next

The closest measured pages are Skywars, EggWars, Survival; all eighteen modes are on the mode table; the two finished matches are side by side on the comparison page.

The match brief above stays empty rather than guessed. The testing method explains why that is the rule here.
